I am trying to connect to live so to do so I need to move the xbox from my bedroom into the room where my router is. Ive connected it to a bigger, better TV than the one in my room but when I switch it on I just get a rolling screen. I have read on xbox.com that I need to change the setting from 60Hz to 50 Hz. It then gives instructions that are completely out of date and only relevant to the old dashboard. So I dont know how to change the Hz setting. I have it back in my bedroom and the only way I can alter it is going to settings> display> then changing it from 720p to the 400 figure before it, then change it back to 720p where it says does this display work in 50Hz? I click yes then without my instruction it changes again to 60Hz. how can I stop this? Ive been carrying it through rooms testing each change which is a pain considering the clunky power pack etc. So if anybody could save me the hassle because I am stumped

I think my better TV is 1080p. Should I set it to this? Surely it would run on 720 though if this was the case?

Does your tv accept 720p? Try it on 1080p and see what happens, 1080p is better than 720p anyway.

Also if you are using the composite/component cables you will need to switch the toggle to HDTV.

yes I sorted it. I dont get it though, Im pretty sure that my bedroom tv is only 720p, so the xbox worked on 720 settings in my room but wouldnt work on the same settings on my 1080 tv. I put it back in my room, changed the settings to 1080 and it worked in my room (even though as I said Im pretty sure its only a 720 tv). I put it on the 1080 tv with the 1080 settings and now it works. Dont understand how a 720 can go above its capabilities and play on 1080, but a 1080 cant underperform and run at 720.

The native resolution is 720p, it can still accept 1080p resolution, it will just downscale it and output at 720p. That is why when you look for a tv you should check it's native resolution (output), not what it is compatible with. It's kind of confusing.

oh ok, Ive been looking at it the wrong way around then. That seems to explain why it rolls on a better TV.
