Ok, first off, I know that this is really old. But here goes nothing.
I bought my Xbox 360 in 2008. Around mid-2009 it had the RROD. So I did he X-clamp fix and it worked fine. I also did the overheat part. Now, here is what I did differently. O used some Intel thermal compound. Also, since I couldn't find and nylon washer ( I live in the Third World XD), I used some paper and folded it and put a hole and made sure it was the same thickness. That solved the problem. Now, after a year, the RROD returned. So I re-applied the paste and it worked fine. I booted the 360 up, played a backup of Gears of War 2. Half-way through the game, it froze. I tried again and again, and it kept on freezing. I tinkered with the tightness of the screws. Now, when I turned it on, the game started, then the dvd drive shot out. I took my disc out and had to oush the drive back in, as the screen had gone black. Now, whenever I turn the console on, the power light keeps on blinking, the dashboard says Disc tray- opening. Nothing happens. Please help.
UPDATE:
I undid the paperfix and used proper stuff. The RROD is gone and so is the static. But the blinking power light is still there. When I powered the console on without the DVD drive, it still kept on blinking. Then I forcibly pulled the tray out of the drive and then plugged it in and started the console. The light stopped blinking. But when I press the eject button or push the drive in a little, it starts blinking again. The static is completely gone
:D

Unusual, but that's a sign of no firmware on the dvd drive, or the drive connection (power, and/or sata) is loose or disconnected. In other words, the 360 doesn't detect the drive. If you hit the eject button, what happens? It sounds like the drive lost power the last time it was working and you pushed the drive back in.

thanks for the reply.
Nothing happens when I eject. It just stays there, almost closed but not totally. Even if I push it in all the way, it wont open then.

Something is shorted somewhere if you feel static electricity coming from your 360. It's very likely that your dvd drive is fried. Do you have the the dummy.bin, or the dvd key from when you flashed your drive? If so, try replacing the dvd drive and see if that fixes your problem. Good Luck!

I didnt flash it. It was already modded when I bought it. The paper migght be a problem i guess. I will try with proper nylon washers and reply back.

Also, if I fried my DVD drive, does that mean that I will have to buy a new one, coz they are hard to come by here.

that is the key that matches the drive to the board, it is what you take off the drive and put into the hacked firmware, before reflashing, if the drive is fried you cannot get it off.

read the jungle flasher tutorial or try dosflash and see if the drive is recognised in windows or dos.

The static is completely gone.

like i said just see if the drive is detected in jungle flasher and if so get a dump of it and replace the drive.
