If i try the heatgun method do i still need to do other methods also like the x-clamp fix? Also...if my box is NOT modded and i fix the rrod myself is it still safe to go online with?

if you fix the rrd nd your xbox is not modded then yes you will still be ok to go online, also you could try the towel trick worked for me, other then that you could just buy a consol of me for £50 hdmi model never been banned from xbox live or rrd
fixing a system and being banned have nothing to do with one another... guesswho is right, NEVER do the towel trick.. it is not a proper fix, it is a VERY temporary fix, and will cause more problems to your system later.
Check out Wooly's heatgun method... this is A MUCH better fix, and will last a lot longer. In any case, if you are doing an x-clamp fix, or a heat gun fix, then it WILL NOT cause you to get banned...
if you mod your system, then you are actually physically changing files stored in your system (in your dvd drive), and as anyone will tell you, you are accepting the risk that you might be banned... however the new LT firmware is as close to stock firmware as you can get, therefore lessening your chances of being banned...
