rrod when cold, plays fine affter.

my friend here has this 360 thats been doing this for 3 years now and it still runs great, it is the original launch 360. we were expecting it to die a long time ago but it never did. so we are tring to fix it. tried x-clamps and it does not seem to make any differences.

Hows it broken?
When it first turns on it will give 3 ring, leave it on for about 5 seconds, turn it off, turn it on and it is usable. as long as it hasnt been turned off for too long anf cooled it will work flawlessly. had kept this xbox on for days and it still runs fine.

any idea on what is going on?

Well, would appear that when it warms up enough, any loose connections are made firm again which allows it to run.

yeah thats what im thinking but it works after 5 seconds of it being on? that quickly it heats up and is usable, and the problem hasnt gotten worst for around three years? x clamps are put in so i doubt its the cpu/gpu. i could of put them improperly but... what else could cause the rrod? (the ram chips?) or could it be anything?

when you get the rrod, hold the sync button and push eject 4 times. That'll give you your secondary error code so you have an idea of what's messed up. http://xbox-experts.com/errorcodes.php

ah ha!, thanks remember reading about secondary error code a long time ago but forgot about it.

error 0110 "Cold solder joint -> RAM"

i guess its time to take a look at it.

so push on each individual ram chip when starting the system and see which one allows you to start the system without RRoD. That's where your cold solder joint is. You can use pennies on it for a temporary (though perhaps long-term) fix or you can reflow that ram chip for a more permanent fix.
