running backups on 360 elite without getting XBL banned

Hey guys,

I picked up a 360 elite yesterday and I had a few questions about modding it. See, after my experience with LOVELY scratched and damaged discs in my console at home (in the dorms now), I wanted to just run backups, except when I'm playing on live.

So here's the question, what is the easiest solution for playing backed up games on the 360 without getting banned on XBL? Because, see, I don't want to play backed up games on XBL, but I do want to be able to play original copies on XBL as well as backed up copies while not on XBL, without getting banned.

What's the quickest, easiest, and most hassle-free way to accomplish that? Because I'd really rather not get banned :P

oh, I should also mention that I have a Hitachi drive and am not adverse to modchipping if need be.

As of now, few people(if any) know what is safe, and not safe on xbox live. What members are suggesting is that the only way to be safe is to buy a spare from gamestop for $130 (thanks andmill11) to modify and play your backups, and keep your elite to play on live (thanks deluxe247).
