Hi all,
received my new samsung drive today so immediately got to work flashing it with ixtreme 1.6. Unfortunately the damned thing powered off during the erase phase.
Now when powering on the xbox the light on the fron tof the xbox just flashes, the drive doesn't sound like it powers up at all and I can't eject the tray.
Anyway out of this?

if you were using the console to power the drive during the flash, im going to say you didnt have have a/v cables plugged in. but either way you really dont have a problem since you sound like you have your key. you can either use dosflash, of you could probably still use jungleflasher.
the reason its flashing is because there is no firmware on it at all. dosflash might be a better choice for you as this is what is normally used when fixing a bad flash.

Thanks for your reply. I have the key and I have a Samsung ixtreme 1.6 firmware spoofed with that key (saved when I flashed my old, knackered Samsung drive) so am ready to go!
I'd also ready elsewhere about using dosflash so have got hold of it. Unfortunately I lost my USB stick so I'm trying to format my USB 140GB drive to make it bootable!

i think i would just run to wal-mart and spend the 5 bucks on a 2 gig stick, or even a 512mb stick will work.

It's not working :(
doskey32 fails with "MTK Vendor Intro faild on port..." and then asks if I want to keep sending until the drive responds. If I select yes (and powercycle the drive) doskey32 just sits there forever because the drive never responds.
If I say no then I can't read or flash the drive because it doesn't see it.
Is there any way back for this drive?

Do you have the right chipset for your motherboard? also it has to be in the same sata port you selected when you flashed your stick using iprep. so try different sata ports, and try redoing your flash drive in iprep making sure you have the right chipset selected. I've had problems like this before where the drive will show up in the bios however dosflash has trouble seeing it. its usually the wrong sata port. Also make sure all other devices are unplugged since you don't want to erase the firmware on any of your other devices.

The MB chipset is fine. I've used this PC to flash a few drives now. I have to admit that before I wasn't using a USB stick, I was using a USB drive, and hadn't run iprep. Just made it bootable and ran dosflash32 from it.
Now I've obtained a USB key and am trying to run iprep. But no matter which firmware I choose from the ixtreme1.6 package it says "invalid firmware" (obviously I'd like to use my custom samsung firmware already spoofed with my key).
I've looked around and the only instructions I can find are about 2 years old and talk about old ixtreme firmware.
Any pointers gratefully received! :)

well, I'm slowly getting there.
Got hold of iprep 101 v009 and the latest definitions file. I can only choose the stock the samsung firmware with this though, anything else gives an error.
So I've iprep'd my usb stick and as far as I can make out I need to rename the firmware I want to <serial no>.bin and stick it in the BACKUPS directory (or I could just run dosflash directly).
Before I do, how does it know which drive to flash? Will it prompt me after scanning the buses?

Last update for tonight :)
I set everything up and have tried both fsam.bat and dosflash directly.
Both just listed all the bus ports with no devices attached. As stated it's as if the drive has no power, so obviously it's not being picked up/seen by dosflash.
So how do I flash this thing?

Sometimes you just need to stop and think :)
I swapped the PCB from the old drive with the knackered laser into the new drive with the knackered (erased) firmware.
Jobs a good 'un.
