Hello.

I read on a tutorial (maybe old) some while ago that a specific SATA card was needed in-order to flash xbox 360 drives, is this still true now or can any do it? I'm getting ready to flash my 360 just for fun.

I have a Asus M2N-E with the NFORCE 4 chipset if that makes any difference, thanks.

nForce are usually compatible. You will just have to hook your drive up and see if you can read the firmware.
