so i got my Lite-on in "vendor mode" and when i click write i get an error. Please help :)

You don't have any firmware loaded in target.
What firmware version of LiteOn do you have and have you already read the firmware?

All i did was place IX 1.6 in the folder that says "Place firmware here!"

okay i added all types of lite-on FW and when i click on write it says "Drive returned invalid status!" but theirs four different types of lite-on FW and no tut says which one. theirs ix161-838,x161-838v2, 16-liteon-repack, and Template_16-liteon. which one do i use?

What is the manufacture date of your 83850C?
I suggest downloading this proper repack:

Lol... have you even dumped the original LiteOn firmware??
You need to dump the firmware, and Jungle Flasher will load it into source. There you should see your DVDkey.
From there you will open up the 838 v2 version of the iX 1.61 in target and click spoof source to target.
At that point you can write the firmware.

I forgot to save the original fw so all I've done so far is click on the "lite-on erase" button and now my drive is in vendor mode.

I forgot to save the original fw so all I've done so far is click on the "lite-on erase" button and now my drive is in vendor mode.
Then you won't have your console specific DVDkey. This console is pretty much a DVD player now.

If the console was made after June 2009 or you have applied any recent updates from XBOX Live, then No, you can't fix it.
I'm not sure what dash you have to have to JTAG, maybe someone will come along and elaborate. If you have an exploitable console, you can JTAG and run Xell to figure out your DVDkey.
So just to confirm this is what you did:
1. Connected 83850C drive to PC
2. Ran JF and went straight to MTKFlash tab
3. Clicked LiteOn erase and power cycled drive

Yes thats exactly what i did.
Alright, well without obtaining your console specific DVDkey first, all you could do is flash firmware back to the drive and use it as a DVD player. Without the console specific DVDkey imbedded in the firmware, you can't play games. When you start your XBOX 360 up, the console checks for that key. If it doesn't match or isn't there, it won't allow you to play any games, only DVD/CDs.
So depending upon your next answer on whether or not you can fix your problem.
I believe if your console was made after June 2009 or you have applied any recent updates from XBOX Live, you can't JTAG your console to get your DVDkey.
