What i would like to know is how many of you guys actually do this and your method for doing so.

I have read that people do this by drawing power from the dvd drive but would this not affect the dvd drives performance? The reason i want to know is i have started buying, fixing and selling xboxes and i got my first return today :( so i would like to prevent further issues a little longer! What i mean by this is that i normally give a gentleman's guarantee of 14 days to people in my local area and explain how prone the consoles are to failure.

They understand this when buying the consoles but i would like my repairs to last a little longer.

I currently just stick to the hybrid x clamp fix and the heatgun method with good results and i just want the repair to last past 14 days. IS the 12v fan mod what im looking for and if so what method is suggested??

Thanks

I'm running a Wisper Max powered with xbox fan connector. I then have the core cooler V2 installed. I have the core cooler wired to 12V under the motherboard on the PSU pins (Where the power connector plugs into the Xbox360) Works great and the keeps the box nice and cool.

@anyboby - I would suggest getting the 12V from the PSU pins under the motherboard. Robbing power from the DVD drive is never a good idea, some say it can cause your DVD drive to fail over time a lot faster.

I also believe that to be logical.

Could you point me in the right direction for a tutorial on how to draw the power from the psu please?

What I did originally was hooked the Wisper MAX fan up with the turbo switch. It comes with a power adapter to hook up to your DVD drive for 12V so you can switch from normal (5V Mode) to Max (12V Mode). What I did is cut the 12V wires before the adapter and picked up and 4-Pin connector from Radio Shack. I soldered the pins onto the 12V wires for the Wisper Max fan and inserted then into 2 slots on a male connector.

Then I took the core cooler V2 power connector and cut the power adapter off of that as well (It come with a adapter to use on your DVD as well) I then soldered pins onto those wires as well and inserted them into the other 2 slots on the male connector.

Then I took the motherboard out and soldered 4 wires to the PSU pins, 2 for 12V+ and 2 for GND. Then I soldered sockets onto those 4 wires and inserted them into the female connector.

So what I did is removed the power adapters that came with the fans and made my own. If you go this route you need to make sure you line the pins and sockets up right in the connectors so when you plug them together the 2 wires for +12V and 2 wires for GND match up. If you need help finding a connector PM me and I can send you links to the ones that I used.

Hi thanks for your reply but i will be doing this to multiple units and do not want to keep spending profit : )

If i was to do it with the stock fans and power them from the power supply as shown in this link

could i still use this method on both types of boards do you know?

I would think that tut is what your looking for then, however instead of soldering to the points they are saying to I would still solder to directly to the PSU pins under the motherboard.

These are the pictures I used to get the +12V and GND pins under the board on the PSU pins. You might have to splice longer wires onto the fan wires so they reach under the board.

Thanks for the link

so do i cut all four wires then, join the red and brown and solder to the 12v psu under the board and then black and blue to the ground

Or is it just the two lives to the 12v and then one wire to ground.

also would it not still be ground if i leave the black and blue untouched and still plugged in to the fan input?

You can leave the GND wires alone, just cut the RED and ORANGE wires and twist them together. Then solder those wires to whatever +12V point that you want. Again I would use the PSU pins under the board.
