Hi, whats up everyone? Anyways, i have an important question to ask =D
I recently purchased an X-Box 360 console. The only problem is that its modified =( . I purchased it from my friend and the only reason i got it because it was for a really cheap price. I don't plan to download games(i never have). I have a collection of original games. But my question is, can i sign onto Live? I know that it will get banned because of the modified software. My true question is: If i use a different Hard Drive on the console, can i play online? I really appreciate your answers, thanks :)
Im a newbie by the way, first post.

Hello, unfortunately, using a different hard drive will not help. The console probably has had the firmware on the dvd drive modified. And even if you were to revert that firmware back to stock, M$ will still likely ban you if you go online with that console.
The most you could do with it now is play offline.

Switching hard drives won't prevent a ban. Your entire system is banned which would cut down quite a few functions you have to a non banned system - installing games to hd etc.

Thanks everyone for replying. Well, it looks like i cant go online at all =( . There isn't any way at all, is there? Could you tell me which exact functions would be cut down if you go online? And if i can't go online, is there a way to add the extra maps/stages to a game without signing onto live? I have a few codes for games, that let you install add-ons to it. Isn't there another way to add the extra's to your game? I greatly appreciate everyones help, thanks :)

Just go on Live and use it until it's banned (if ever).

Okay, but does anybody know what features don't work in the X-Box after its banned? And if i use the Hard Drive on another console and sign online, does it get the other console banned?

Using the hard drive on another console is ok, it won't get the console banned.

I don't know how to reflash it and stuff. Like i said, im not used to the downloading/torrent thing. And i don't plan much on downloading. I think i'll use my drive on another drive to download the maps/stages to the pack legally using the codes. I just need a few more people to say its okay and im good to go. Thanks everyone =D

Wont work, the DLC is locked to the console you downloaded it from.
In answer to you previous question regarding lost functionality, you will lose the ability to copy games to your hard drive and play on live.

Basically, from what I understand, is that if you receive an update option from xbl at the dashboard you will most definitely get banned if you accept it. The theory behind this is that Microsoft is somehow checking your firmware on the drive in your xbox. If the drive is modified(say with 1.6 or w/e) then you WILL get banned from xbl. You will lose the ability to install to the hdd and you cannot even play arcade games that were not orignally downloaded on that box. You can still play games and such and receive achievements but that is of no use. Moving your profile from the banned xbox by any means other than recovering through xbl will corrupt your profile. This prevents you from aquiring achievements on the banned xbox. (Good idea MS) However, if you do a little research on the posts in this section you can find out quite easily how to flash original fw back to your drive to update. You should talk to your friend that sold you the xbox and see what he has to say about it.
Things to find out:
1.Drive type (BENQ,LITE-ON,SAMSUNG,HITACHI)
2.Firmware version(ixtreme;1.4, 1.51, 1.6, 1.61)
3.Most of all if you can even flash original firmware on it. This includes having a SATA card or onboard SATA and Jungle Flasher(grab the newest version)
4.Try to get him to do this for you if he was the one that flashed the box originally.
You will not get banned unless you update through the dashboard or play a non-stealth or bad ss game
P.S. As far as downloading game content on another box with the same hdd, I don't believe that the licenses will let you play with this content offline on another box because of the simple fact that the box does not have the license. Next time, do some research. You will find that all you need is already here.

I greatly thank you! And everyone too. I told my friend to remove the flash before selling it to me. But the problem was that he didn't know how / and he wasn't the one who flashed it. But i'll ask him for the drive type and firmware. Thanks alot.
