im new to the flashing community, and i gotta admit im a bit paranoid. how do many of you avoid the ban waves, how long have you survived?
i had an idea to always go back to original firmware before accepting updates, i dont know how good of an idea that is, but thats what im gonna be doing. it may be a hassel, but IDK, i have a hitachi, so i can flash it in a "flash"

The best way to look at it is, expect to be banned at some point, but be thankful when you get through a ban wave. I've gone through either 2 or 3 ban waves without getting hit so far. All I've done is only play verified retail rips, and only when the release date has passed. Others might say "I've played all kinds of rips before the release date without getting banned", but that doesn't mean that it's good advice.

hey im a newbie about this but how often do you have to update the iextreme firmware? Like this update on the 15th will we need to update our firmware?

my friend has been playing for about over a 1 1/2 year and no problem at all, I myself been playing over six months with my flash 360 and no problem here either. So about this wave thing, I don't believe it, Someone want to scare people with flash 360's. If I get banned well I get a new account simple, anyways I been saving lot of cash since I flash my xbox, Hell I save over $3,000 in games alone, so $50 won't hurt for new account.

you don't need a new account. you need a new system. when you get banned, the whole system is banned from LIVE, not the gamertag.
best way to play on LIVE is not to flash the system. if you do get banned on an unmodded system, that means you just blatently broke LIVE rules.

#1 - The ban waves are real. Plenty of people on this forum and XS have been banned during these waves.
#2 - They ban your console not your live account.

Im a little confused about "ban waves". I'm assuming there when many people get banned because microsoft decides to look hard for them. And im guessing theres no way of knowing when these are going to happen.
could i be wrong?

I was under the impression that over time MS "tags" players they believe to be playing backups games and after a while they drop the hammer and ban all of the players on the tag list.
I don't think anyone knows exactly when these will happen. I've heard rumors about one soon though.

from what i've read, these ban hammers are dropped right before releases of major games. ie modern warfare 2.

In a nutshell, that's it.
You can stealth all the games you like. You are still running the risk of getting banned.

Couple of things then:
DO NOT PLAY ANY GAME BEFORE IT IS ON THE SHELF AND FOR SALE IN STORES!!!!
EVER!!!!
I would never play a unverified game
Watch downloading review copies of games, it is alot safer to wait pretty close till the release date of a game, watch its file size as well.
Do not brag about your modded system and games, keep it to yourself.
All the other people telling you that you will be banned is as accurate as me telling you that you wont be banned.
If i speed in my truck will i get a ticket? no, but i am taking the risk.
So yes you can be banned, but that does not mean you will.

Atleast one person finally learns.
There are senior members, and others who know what they are doing that do play games ahead of their release date, but if you don't watch out, you'll get caught. Just be smart in the end.

@GunBlazin you mean the price of a new xbox won't hurt, they're not that dumb they ban your consoles serial number so it can't play on xbox live. There was a wave 3 so ixtreme 1.5 and below couldn't play them but 1.51 could. Before 1.51 people had to use 1.4 non stealth to play the wave 3 games.

i have my 360 modded for about 11 months and i havnt got banned and i play on live alot =/ i wouldent worry just make sure all your games are stealth and check them

As long as you do that, it's really as safe as can be (short of ripping your own games, or not even flashing in the first place).

When you guys talk about ban waves, if you aren't online during this sweep then would you be safe to go back online after it passes?
Or do people just not go online when they see there is a wave coming until there is a firmware update?
Just curious what actions should be taken when people start noting that bans are coming.
I only use live for game updates and demos so I don't usually keep it logged in so I'm just trying to take the best actions to avoid getting banned even though it's inevitable.
