Is the drive original, or is it a different model/brand than the original drive? That will cause the error as well. The only way to remedy this problem is to have the original drive type so it completes the update properly.

i have explained this about 4 times on here already, you should have looked at the other posts before starting a new one, the reason this is not finishing the update is obviously your update is on a burnt disc? there is 2 ways you can finish the update at this point, first: easiest and cheapest, flash your drive LT1.91, put the disc you started the update with, this will complete the update, Second: more expensive, get an original copy of the game disc that you put in and started the update, this will complete the update. when the update starts the very fist thing that happens is it flashed your drive back to stock, therefore there was no real reason at that point for you to do the same thing, now that it is stock, there is no way for it to read the update from your burnt disc.

I had same problem use usb to do the update download the correct dash version to update to i had to update from 13146 and then to 13599 which got me out of the update loop. So give that a try. Thou my drive now needs flashed to lt1.92 to play back ups again. If i every get the drive key extracted. Hope this helps.

You can get out of the update loop by checking the second number of the code you're getting (e.g. XXXX-335A-XXXX...)
Convert this HEX to BIN here for example and you'll get the number of the update to put on a USB thumb drive. You can then deny the update. You won't be able to read backups

^^ Good post, whacker.
That's often why it's not working though, because you start to update from a disc that doesn't contain the very latest dashboard - your drive is flashed back to stock in the process, so you then can't continue updating from that disc - but then you try and finish the update using the latest update from Xbox.com on a USB stick, which is not the same as the update on your backup game disc and hence it does not work.
