The latest for Lite-On drives is iXtreme LT.
iXtreme 1.61 for the rest of drives.

From what I can understand is that you want to swap dvd drives from your old xbox to your new xbox to play backup games offline, then switch back the dvd drives to their original xbox for a safe online play.

My question is why would you do that? For achievement uploading? You can just switch HDDs if that was the case.

It just doesn't make any sense.

I'm guessing it isn't safe, especially if the DVD drives are from different manufacturers.

It will only make things more complicated by having to obtain the dvd key from the new xbox dvd drive, then updating the firmware from the old xbox dvd drive and using it on the new xbox.

You could just use one xbox for backups and one for retail games on live.
