I have 2 360's, one's RROD but the disk drive (hitachi) is completely fine. My 2nd 360 (also hitachi drive) is giving me open tray errors and it's getting annoying. Since the disk drives are coded with the motherboard, is it possible to remove the chip board in the 2nd 360, and put it in the disk drive of the 1st broken 360. Ending up with the disk drive of 1st 360 and the chipset of the 2nd one inside the drive. And then placing the drive in my 2nd 360 and play without flashing? Basically this video:

Both drives are xtreme 1.51, if that matters

If they are both the same brand/ver then I would say yes. But have never tried it myself.

Yes it will work.
Although your hitachi drive that's giving you open tray issues could possible be sorted out with a pot tweak.

XBOX Halo Ed. = DuoX2 w/250gb HD
Xbox 360 Red Elite 120GB HDD = no-stealth 1.6 & XBReboot V3 & 1TB usb hdd
PS2 Slim = freemcboot v1.8 - PSP Black Slim = 5.00m33-6
Wii = w/ Blue XCM ii-case, Wiikey2 & softmodded

k so I tried this and it didn't work. Drive 1 is a Hitachi 47DH and the other drive is a 78FK. I put the chip of the 47DH into the 78FK drive but there is almost a grinding noise. It happens when the laser moves up and down trying to extract data off the DVD to start it up. It doesn't read the disk...any ideas?
