I just ordered a talismoon whisper fan to replace my existing fan. Upon doing some research I noticed you can mod your existing fan to run at full 12v. Is this better than the whisper running at 5v? And if so, can/should I mod the whisper to run at a full 12v instead of 5v? Supposedly there are fuse problems with the whisper fan, if I mod the whisper to run at full 12v would this compound the possibility of blowing the fuse? Thanks for all the advice in advance.

IMO whisper fans run quiet compared to the stock fans @ 5v. Both @ 12v however, the whisper seems a bit louder than stock fans. I've never had a fuse blow on me running @ 12v using a whisper.

So, I can mod the whisper fan to run constantly at 12v? How is this done?

You could have ordered the Whisper Legacy with the 5v/12v switch. The switch mounts under one of the memory card doors. To use the switch you just gently press the door as if you were pressing the switch itself.

Being that I ordered the regular whisper, is there a way to splice the power from the dvd cable to the fan?

Yeah, I did realize that you already ordered the fan. I was just throwing that info out there so you could see that you had more options.

I don't see why the Whisper couldn't be 12v modded just like the stock fan. I thought it had the same current draw as the stock fan so there shouldn't be a fuse issue.

If you're looking for how to do the mod, have you checked out YouTube?

For a cleaner install you can just jump the transistor. Non hdmi boards have the gpu transistor on the top of the board and the cpu transistor on the bottom of the board. Hdmi boards have one transistor on the bottom of the board that controls both the cpu and gpu fan bus.

For non hdmi board

Jump the right pin across the transistor

For hdmi board

Jump the right pin to the middle pin on the transistor

If you ever want to remove your 12v mod you can just take some desoldering braid and be done with it.
