We bought the Xbox 360 Arcade and have done nothing but fork out money for it.
Firstly, we didn't realise that it didn't come with a hard drive so we bought a cd with the software update which would enable the older games to be played. Then when we realised about the lack of hard drive (assumed it was all intergrated like the old console)we had to buy a hard drive just to be able to play some of the old xbox games and not all are compatible which is a con on it's own.
After using the console for a few months we decided to get it online so we bought a wireless networking adapter and connected it up with my broadband connection. Then we found that we can't actually use the game profile which we've been using offline all this time without having to pay another fee (800 microsoft points)to merge it as an online account so instead, we created another profile to get it online with but none of the game saves or acheivements will be able to move over to this new live account so that was all a waste of time!
What exactly can we do or benefit from with having a silver account anyway? Nothing by what I've read about.
I can't beleive how much we've paid out for on this console and have only been able to play a few games from the old one plus the new ones we've bought along the way. It's not worth the expense.

not to sound rude or anything, but all of this could have been avoided if you would have done even minimal amount of research before buying a console. it says on the box what comes with the console you are looking at and the other variations of 360's for sale.

Yes I know it is a lesson learnt. It was hasty buy from a mate who got it as a free gift with some bundle.

first off, I don't understand why you are complaining if it was free. Second off, wabashman already made the point I would love to drive home. If you would actually read what you were buying (which you would think would be something that people do, but I guess I'm wrong) you would then know exactly what you are getting. If you don't, that's not Microsoft's fault. That's just your own.

I feel that i have gotten more than i have paid for out of my xbox. If you were only looking to play original xbox games why not buy an original xbox for much cheaper? i do think the accessories are a bit of a rip sometimes but thats why they are accessories not necessaries. wireless adapter is way overpriced not not needed and not worth it imo. silver accounts still let you add friends, download demos and i believe download content, you just can't play on live. Honestly the new games are worth it, there are so many great games on the 360, and at least it has working backwards compatibility. the ps3 was supposed to be 100% but now none of them have it. M$ does state however that its not 100% backwards compatibility from the get go. and if you paid for a cd for the software update you got ripped off since its available free, thats not microsofts fault, and like was said before the arcade does not state it comes w/hard drive.

Wait a second, you actually bought a CD with an update that can legally be downloaded from Microsoft's homepage for free?

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

chaz... thats for c's on here. guess if your name begins with a c you are smart. :) and yea, i don't believe i have ever made a purchase without reading the package. hell if i spend 30$ i read about what i am buying, so if you are that worried about the money, not to be rude, but your prolly shoulda read the package. lesson learned is correct. btw i love mine, and feel as though it was a great investment. of course if i didn't feel that way i prolly wouldn't be here now would i? :)
