First of all, I would like to tell you about my experience, so there won't be any misunderstanding.
I know much about computer and electronics. I know about piracy, cracking, and such and can do it all. I have experience with PS2, PSP, PC (pfft). I can understand all technical terms, and operations.
Here comes my questions.
1. I'm buying a new x360, and FWing it, so I can play backup games. I will not connect to live when I am playing backup games BUT I wish to buy some of the games original and play them through live. Would that result on me getting banned?
2. Is it possibble to revert the FW operation back? So I can get back to original FW?
3. Does it take long to FW x360? Is it possibble for me to crack my x360, play backup games, then un-FW when I want to play original games, then re-FW when i need to?
4. I saw it is possibble to install linux on x360, is that right? Does it work?
5. I believe we can create different partition for linux, so i can boot on linux or original, is that right?
6. Can I play backup games on Linux partition?
7. Can I partition my system so one boot goes to original FW, and other goes to cracked-FW?
Thank you for your reply.

1. Depending on your xbox there are 2 new lite-on drives that are un-hackable as of now, and no one knows how we get banned but there is a un-detectable firmware in works(meaning you could play backups online)
2. Yes if you make a backup of your original firmware you can flash back whenever you want.
3.The longest part for me is taking it apart, but flashing from hacked to original would be way to much of a hassle
4. You can`t on the newest update but there might be a loop hole in the future
5. I would assume so.
6. Not as of now as we dont have and homebrew stuff yet.
7. I did read something about buying another flah chip where the firmware is stored and piggyback them and add a switch.
Thats the best i can do!

Hmm, so I need to be careful on what model I buy? like, I'm gonna buy Elite, so I need to be careful about something? and for un-detectavle FW, I "might" be able to wait for it i guess =P

Is there any tutorial for such thing?

wait, you have to "take stuff out" of the xbox 360?
Originally posted by relaxIt: 4. You can`t on the newest update but there might be a loop hole in the future
It works on some versions?

Question 5 answered~

1. when you buy one you wont know which lite-on drive you have until you open your 360 and im sure almost all new xbox in stores have lite-ons
2. During the flashing you are required to dump the drive firmware for the key so you will have the original backuped then (Tut Here) http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/662917
3. Yes you need to take the outer case off the xbox (t-10 screwdriver needed) google for a video
4. it used to work on the xboxs before m$ released a Dashboard update to block this
5. not to sure and you can't use linux anyways
6. Linux is still very new.(xbox live requires an update and the new xboxs will already been updated so you cant use linux yet.)
7. you need to get another flash chip (maybe buy an old broken drive off ebay, solder the chip off then solder in on your new drive)
but there is no need to do that if the new firmware is un-detectable from M$

There is an article round here somewhere that mentions attempts to run linux, apparently they did get some code to work or something, however if you update the 360 to the newest dash & in the future there is a release to use linux it won't work as the new dash contains some blocking thing or whatever to stop code from running

Hijacking this thread for my own little question:
My xbox RRoDed the other day. The warranty sticker is still intact and I am thinking of sendin the machine for repairs. I heard they will replace my Samsung dvd drive with a newer lite-on even if there's no problem with the old one? Is this true?
Also, is there a way to check if my xbox has been flagged?

Hm, so I have lite-on for sure now.
Thanks for the database link man, it is so cool.
Now looking around how x360 FWding is... and trying to understand why some uses dvd drive pin soldering and some uses hdd fw flashing and some just uses flash boot memory thingies.

You shouln't have hijacked this thread with off-topic questions that could possibly warrant their own thread. Try it.
