I did the fix to get rid of my gpu error, but i had to over heat just that part on the xbox. I left my dvd drive on the gpu while i was doing that and now it won't open. Either I broke the SATA cable or I may have fried the drive with all that heat. If it's happened to any of you out there, I'd like to see your suggestions. It's a hitachi drive as well.

does it close at all? also the SATA cable does not control the open/close of the tray the power does as well as the button on the front. Be sure you put the case back together properly and possibly manually close it and force it open to reset it. Just don't break the stupid thing.........not responsible

The tray never opened when i put it back together, the opening light would just keep flashing. I'll still try your suggestion though.

Check your connections, both sata power and data. It sounds like the 360 doesn't see the drive (eject light flashing constantly while powered on).

Even with that much heat, I really doubt it has anything to do with the drive itself. Check to make sure your sata/power cables are making contact, or replace them.

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

I disassembled it and put it back together, also made sure that everything was plugged in. It actually said "reading for a few seconds before going back to "open tray". now it reads that the tray is open even though it didn't move.

EDIT: I tried manually ejecting it and it changed from "open tray" to "opening". So it's picking up the drive. When I put the tray back in I noticed the status didn't change and that the laser/ motor assembly didn't go back up.
