Hi, first of all, I have to say I am a noob at 360 flashing.
Okay, so I have a Hitachi 79 that I have been trying to flash.
My setup is as follows:
? Hitachi 79
? Connected by SATA
? Powered by 360
? VIA 3149 Chipset
? Jungleflasher 1.67b (PortIO is installed)
? iXtreme 1.51
I am able to get the drive into mode b using the Slax method and sometimes with Jungleflasher, but it will not show up in My Computer or in Drive in Jungleflasher. If I insert a retail DVD or game, my computer will run slowly and the drive will show up and disappear in My Computer, and when I try to right click and eject it when it does show up, it won't work. I have tried uninstalling the VIA drivers, but it didn't help.
Please help me with this, I have wanted to mod my 360 for a long time, only to be faced with this dilemma. If I missed any important information that can help solve this problem please tell me.
Thank you.

Why are you using slax? 79's require the audio unlock

VIA 6421 is the one that works for sure. VIA 3149 may not be compatible. Also getting to mode b is just the 1st part. You have to put the unlock CD in the 360 and unlock it before you can continue.

I have the unlock CD, but I cannot get it to play since the drive will not show up in Windows or Jungleflasher. And on the rare occasion that is does show up in Jungleflasher, I can get it into mode b but I cannot play the 79 Unlock.

Slax gets it into mode b, which must be done first before playing the 79 Unlock. 79 Unlock "unlocks" the drive to where it can be flashed.

There is no need to use Slax. There is a Send B in JF for that. I've flashed more hitachis than I can could and never used a slax disc. Hit send b, put in audio disc in hitachi and hit unlock audio. Then you can dump the firmware.

Everyone's setup is different. I could never get JF to send a Hitachi 79 to mode b so I just use slax for that.
to bmxer4130:
Right click your computer and go to hardware / device manager. See if you see a DVD drive with an exclamation point. If so, device manager and click on the device and select update driver/populate. If none if this works it sounds you should go get a VIA 6421 SATA PCI card.

If it doesn't work, then your setup is wrong. I've setup so many computers and never had an issue with JF.

I went to device manager and the drive shows up, but it still does not show in My Computer. Also, my comp suffers quite a bit of screen lag and takes longer to boot XP and to login.
Here is a screenshot of the drive in Device Manager.

Hitachis, are probably The hardest Drives to get to recognise.
If you have a sata port on Your Motherboard, try this rather Than The Via ( PCI Card ) Also Not Mentioned Here, in any of The posts. An hitachi must Be Of it,s Original or Stock firmware. Before modifying It Further. You Cannot Flash An Already Flashed Hitachi drive.

Even though it's VIA, your mobo SATA may not be the right one for this.

So should I just use a friend's computer? Or is there any other way for this to work on my computer without buying any new hardware?

With what you posted it sounds like your current SATA won't work.

Well are you sure it's my SATA that's the problem? My drive will show up in Device Manager and in the boot menu, and temporarily in My Computer, I just can't get it to show up in JF. Could it be a software issue?

Well, I was able to get it into Mode B once, but I was unable to do the Audio Unlock.
