Tut on updating games off-line?

I recently downloaded a 200 meg (+/-) RAR file that contains off-line updates to a lot of games. It says to place them on part3/cache of your hard drive with Xplore 360 I think it was. But, to figure out what games are in there, the NFO file makes reference to using 'x360 tool'. I found that program but since I'm not running Windows 98 any more, it freaks out looking for some VB files. It appears that x360 tool was last updated in mid 2006. Can anyone point me to a current tut that makes use of modern tools to accomplish my goal?

Also, how does this work. Once the TU*********** files are in place, when you go to play or install your game, it will see that update and ask you to use it?
