unreadable disc from hard drive

the other day I was playing lost planet 2 off the hard drive. I finished a chapter and before it could save i got the unreadable disc error and had to play the whole level again. Why does this happen when your playing off the hard drive? I thought the whole purpose of that was to avoid things like this. Any insight fellas? It only happens with this game never happened on any others.

My first guess would be that either the game didnt copy over correctly, or it could very well be that you are starting to develop bad sectors on your hard drive. I would try 1 of 2 things, to rule out a faulty copy, try deleting the game and re-copying it to your drive. Or, to rule out bad hard drive sectors, delete the game, then copy another game to the drive (any game) THEN copy the problem game to the drive and see if it gets the same error. The reason for copying the other game 2nd is to be sure the drive is copying that game to different sectors on your drive.

thx snickle for your input. Strange update however, I deleted the game from the harddrive and installed it on USB flash drive instead and still got the read disc error at the same exact spot. I tried burning 3 different copies and all copies disc errored out at the same spot didnt matter if i played off the disc off the harddrive or of the flash drive. Here is the thing though, I have another 360 so I tried playing it on that one and it played just fine off the disc. So apparently the problem is with the 360 itself, I would say its the drive but why only for this game on the same exact spot each time? (when loading ch. 5 scene 1). No other game gives me this error and I play many..weird! I just gave up, so what im gonna do is pass this level on the other 360 then try it again when I get to ch. 5 scene 2 and see if I can continue then......any ideas to whats wrong? I'm thinking maybe has to do with the fact I have LT 1.0 and need to upgrade to 1.1? Only thing I could think of.

I would start to suspect your drive (laser) it could be a weak pulse thats not hitting that particular angle of the disc correctly when it comes time to read it. You can get brand new Benq's from china off ebay for $20 free shipping.

True, but I have read it is not ideal to spoof a drive when using Lite Touch. I'll just let it be for now since it appears to be only that one game, thanks.

I figured out the problem so I thought I let people know what I did just in case anyone else has encountered this problem.

After some googling I read about disc errors from hard drive being due to corrupt data on the hard drive.

So after cleaning the cache of the hard drive the game played perfectly. Apparently I had a corrupt update or something.
