So in the past I had two consoles, one for legit game online playing and another for early backup playing. The modded one of course never went online, so I decided I would get it flashed with stealth firmware so I wouldn't have problem with it all the time with the new waves and have to re-flash all the time. Recently, however, my legit box broke down. I was wondering, if my modded box was unstealth and now it's LT+, can I now take it online, assuming I play a properly stealthed disc?
I ask because I don't know if the stealth check is recorded on the hardware or if it's checked online. I also did an Xval check and the 360 isn't flagged, but I don't know how helpful of an indication that is.
PS. The on-board battery died so the timer is dead, hence every game is timestamped as played on 2005, if it matters at all.
I'm not sure if anyone knows 100% if this is safe or not. I had a similar situation. I played with non-stealth firmware offline. I flashed the box and have been playing online since with no problems...... yet....
This is one of those times that if you really want to play online, you just bite the bullet and hope for the best. Since your xval came back clean, the console isn't marked for a ban, at least no flags have been raised on the console (although that doesn't mean it's not invincible to the server side). In the meantime, why not do some research on fixing your broken xbox. There are tons of tutorials on here and most problems are fixable.
I don't believe that there is an on-board battery. I think the way the 360 is setup is similar to how a usb thumb drive works. The reason of the 2005 date stamp is because if you're not connected to live, it doesn't sync up with the live server clock and therefore the date and time are defaulted to either when the system was made, or a preset date/time every time you turn your console on.
Thanks a lot for the well-thought out response :) It's nice to at least get some anecdotal info.
How long have you been playing online, by the way?
Regarding fixing my box, it has a E74 error, which I understand to be covered by M$ for free, I sent it in only to find that the retailer (not M$) had sold me a refurbished box that wasn't refurbished by M$, as they marked it as tampered and refuse to do anything further (they won't even fix it for a fee). I read about ways to fix this and they seem to be reflow with a heat gun or reflow station (and temporarily, the towel trick, which was reported to be harmful, plus it didn't work for me after the first time), and my impression is those are also temporary solutions at best, although just last longer than the towel trick. I think repair by someone using a reflow station is the best out of them, but I'll admit to not knowing how long that lasts. If it's only 2 - 3 months, then it's probably worth just getting a new one.
