Updating flashed Lite on drive

Ok, so I've been looking around different sites and tutorials and such and I can't seem to find an exact answer to my question. A couple years ago I bought a 360 and had if flashed by a guy in town. He was too lazy to send me the drive key and told me it could be read off the drive once it had been flashed. So unfortunately whats done is done. I'm trying to update from ixtreme 1.6 to LT+. My question is can the drive key still be read and what means do I need to do it.

Also I have another hitachi drive I could replace it with, is that possible?

yes. Just redump and save the keys. Then rewrite with LT +

What drive is in the box now? Only the liteon 7xxx series can use a probe unless you have the lizard which I doubt you do. The methods are different depending on which drive you have.
