Updating game patches without XBL. Safe?

Hi guys,

thanks for all your help on my other topic re: new games on my 1.51 fw.

i have a game that is unchanged from launch day. the developers have released a few patches since then, tweaking it, fixing known bugs etc etc, but my Xbox has never been online, so my game hasn't been updated.

i was just wondering if it was safe to patch it, using my local home connection, even with the custom firmware installed? i've checked and I cant patch it via USB, apparently. i've never played online but i may do in the future.


one more Q: a friend of mine has XBL Gold version. would it be possible to take my game and harddrive, and have his system update the game for me?


running i-extreme 1.51 with a liteon drive. forgive me if these questions are basic i'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to modifying consoles.

upgrade to LT+1.1 then connect to Xbox Live Free/Gold and update your games

but if you are on 1.51 FW you will be instantly banned if you connect it to xbox live free/gold
