So I bought myself a 250GB and then proceeded to do the whole re/overwriting firmware thing (the thing you have to do in DOS). Afterward, I just put the new drive in the enclosure and popped it back into my 360. I know most people would proceed to go to xplorer to copy the files, but at the time I just saw no need because I had my profile and saves on my memory card, and I really don't mind just copying the games onto the drive from the DVDs again.
I didn't even format it because I didn't know how (and sort of assumed that 360 would detect the new drive and ask to do it), and games copied onto it and played just fine. I just now learned how to format it (what to press).
I want to ask what would be the repercussions of not formatting it? And what would be the repercussion of not restoring partition 2 and etc? Sorry for the noob question. The guides say to do it but I don't remember seeing why (it seems to only have to do with your game files). Should I put the drive on my legit box to get the updates from Live? Thanks!
ps. It plays fine, I've been playing on it for over a week. I'm just wondering because I'm now trying to play Xbox 1 games that's already processed and it won't. So I'm wondering if it's something in the partition or maybe I need to get the compatibility update.
Ah okay. I just wanted to get confirmation on whether or not neglecting to restore partition 2 would result in that.
What about partition 3? I found a guide where it says that partition 3 is the 360 main file system. I have a brand new 250GB drive, would I need to worry about that? (even though everything but emulator runs and works)
