Hi all and thank you for taking time on reading and possibly answering my question. I need help quite badly, what happened was I was trying to flash my Lite On DVD Drive, but when it powered on, smoke started coming from it and now the drive is completely fried (it is not detectable by PC or Xbox). So I have read up on swapping the drives around and all have said that I need to obtain the key from the old drive for the new one to work, the problem is that I cant as the old drive is fried and wont even power on. So what I was thinking was if I brought a new Lite On drive and then flashed it with the custom firmware, would this work in my Xbox 360? Failing that does anybody have an alternative solution? Thanks in advance, DokRobin
Unfortunately your original LiteOn drive contains a unique DVDkey that is married to your XBOX 360. Without that unique DVDkey, all a new drive will do is play DVDs.
There is possibly one way of recovering the DVDkey. If your XBOX 360 console is dashboard version 2.0.7371.0 or lower. If it is any higher, unfortunately there won't be a way to get your DVDkey.
Hi thank you for your reply, after looking I still do have the "Key.bin" file that was saved from when I tried to flash it in the first place, to clarify, If I brought a new drive that was exactly the same make and model and the fried one and then flashed it with that firmware file (Key.bin) and then reinstalled it into the xbox, would it now work and read/play Xbox 360 games as well?
