I've got a banned console and I wanted to update my xbox so I can get the USB to show up in the memory settings.

I can't connect to LIVE as im banned, I've tried to burn the '$SystemUpdate' folder with to CD and also to USB but none of them start the installation when the 360 is turned on.

Am I doing something wrong?

put $SystemUpdate from 9199 in the root of a fat formatted drive, turn your xbox on, insert usb device into xbox, there should pop up a blade saying there´s an update.
If there isn´t, you've screwed it up somehow.
