using hard drive from another console

i can buy a red ringed console with a 120 gb hard drive my ? is can i take the 120 gb hd and use it on my other console that i already have modded which i dont think matters i am asking cause even if i dont get the other console fixed right away i want the bigger hard drive but wi a hd from another console work on my existing console if i get a transfer kit?

i did i found how to do it with a new hard drive like if u buy a 120 to replace your 20 it is real easy but will it work with a hard drive from another console i want to buy this console and take the 120 from it and use it until i fix it the guide says after you transfer from your 20 to the new 120 the 20 will be usable on another 360 my concern is what if the 120 is used not new does it work the same way

just put the 120 on your current console and reformat it, then use the transfer disc to put all your crap on it.

ok 1 more ? i really dont care about anything on the console except for game saves my profile i can always get back by recovering it from xbox live. i really dont want to get a transfer kit is there any other way to save my gamesaves and put em on the new drive

couldn't i use a memory card for the 360 to transfer everything to then transfer it back to the new hard drive

forget it found the answer on google and yes you can do it from what i read just move the files you want to the momory card then plug in the new hard drive format it and move the file back to the new hard drive real easy

Im not a big fan of the transfer kit, for some odd reason it wont partition your NEW hard drive right and just uses MORE space then needed. I have 2 friends experiances witht his situation, the 1st we did the transfer kit, and we transfered 15gb, and all of a sudden he had over 22gb on teh 120gb.
SO, the second friend I told him to delete all his conmtent (BUT write down what maps u like, or arcade games you own) The games he REALLY wanted to save games from (IE Mass effect campaign or call of duty campaign) we used a MU card to transfer back n forth.
This leads to my point that delete what you dont want, and move what you only need to move. YOUR BEST option is to re register your console/hard drive ID so that all your PURCHASED conent gets transfered with license correctly. or else you cant play OFF LINE an arcade game cause of eula rights or something. THeres some games I liek to play like worms, and when I transferd it I could only play online, but once you register your hard drive it allows you to play when you want. All my old maps (forza, halo etc,) you can re download a million times cause its tied to your xbox live acount, it never goes away.
