I have a quick question about the VIA 6421 card. I just recently got a 360 (Pro 60GB) with the Jasper chipset and of course the LiteOn DG-16D2S. I practically have everything ready to go but I keep seeing tutorials and posts of people recommending the VIA 6421 PCI SATA card and I'm starting to get really confused and nervous on flashing the drive. The PC I'm planning on flashing this drive has an ASUS K8V-X mobo with the K8T800 chipset by VIA, and yes, it includes SATA ports and a serial port.

So, do I need the VIA 6421 or is it absolutely safe to use the onboard SATA?

Thanks, and sorry if this is a nuisance to answer :S

you can try with your onboard and see if it works, nothing bad can really happen. it will either see the drive or it wont see it. and if it doenst see it, then you will obviously need the PCI card.

ALSO, DO NOT SEND ME MESSAGES ON LIVE REGARDING MODDING CONSOLES, OR HOW I PLAYED A CERTAIN GAME EARLY. I WILL NOT RESPOND. I WILL INSTEAD DELETE YOUR MESSAGE, AND BLOCK ALL COMMUNICATION FROM YOU. JUST SEND ME A PM ON HERE.

That's good news, I guess. I thought something might screw up during flashing. Once I get the CK3 Lite + Probe (should be this Friday at latest) I'll test and cross my fingers that I don't need the PCI card.

Thanks for the swift response.

I'm guessing you will have a nForce chipset just by your logo in your signature. nForce are usually compatible.

If you have a out of the box PC you can always ask your manufacturer.

They'll let you know straight away without waiting with a half open box and PC

I actually have 2 PC's, my main PC with an nForce 780a without an external serial port (I'm thinking that I have an extension for the onboard serial port) and my old PC with an ASUS K8V-X with the VIA K8T800 chipset that has SATA I and an external serial port. It's good to know that nForce will work just in case the PC I'm using for modding doesn't detect the drive.

Thanks for the help.

EDIT: Both my PC's are custom built, but I'll just wait until I actually get the CK3 Lite + Probe before I make any other purchases or ask anything else. Thanks though.

Try the PC with the VIA chipset. I'm betting it will work.

I use a old nforce 550 mobo which works fine but oddly enough, I had to use the via card to flash that laptop hard drive. I say get the via anyway!

I guess I am gonna have to get the VIA 6421 unless I can find a Serial adapter for my nForce mobo. Though I found something odd.

I started my VIA PC with the CK3 on and there was a message that gave info on what was plugged into SATA port 1 describing the 360 drive (PLDS DG-16D2S before my PC booted into XP). Though I went into Jungle Flasher with a blue light on the CK3 with PortIO32 clearly installed and everything plugged in perfectly, but no drive found. I searched through all the I/O ports on COM1 (only serial port I have) but didn't find the 360 drive.

So does this still mean I need a VIA 6421, or is there something I'm doing wrong? BTW, my VIA SATA controller is model 6420 if that helps.

Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: Nevermind, I got the onboard SATA to find the drive and was able to flash successfully. Thanks for all the help.
