Reply: I think now that they have fixed the issues with xbreboot that the cygnosv2 and freeboot are not the best way to go, just my opinion.

Q 1. Do I still have to do jtag soldering on the console for homebrew?
A Cygnosv2 incorporates the jtag hack with it's soldering.

Q 2. Will I still need to flash the DVD-ROM Drive or is there another way to install games to hds?
A You don't have to flash your drive you can use other methods depending on if you have a retail hdd or a usb hdd.

Q 3. How hard is it to install software (freeboot, freexex, emulators, etc.)?
A Just copying it to the correct place with appropriate patches is pretty easy.

Q 4. Anything else I should know (backup or safety steps, etc.)?
A Just keep good backups of you .bin files

Hope that helps and I'm sure some better tuts will be made later on also.

Are downloaded 360 games playable from a usb key or usb hd without flashing the dvd drive? If the game is playing from the hard drive, the dvd drive would have no involvement?

That's correct. Right now the process is to extract the game data from the .iso and then run it through Xbox 360 game hack to remove media restrictions etc and then use xexloader to load the game from the hdd or flash drive.

Heya,

i have a problem with NAND Pro, i keep getting the error "Could not detect a flash controller!" and i have no idea why.

- I don't have another computer to try it on (at least for a few weeks+ )
- The LPT cable was 1m, i have shortened it to ~50cm
- 7 points soldered on the xbox, 1x ground, 5x 100ohm resistors, 1x BAT41 diode (black ring facing xbox mobo)
- My PC Bios has ECP+EPP, Bi-Directional and Normal Parallel Port Mode. (have attempted all 3, default port is 378.

The exact message is:

Testing LPT device address:0378
Testing LPT device address:0278
Testing LPT device address:03BC
Could not detect a flash controller!
Can not continue

Any ideas on whats the matter?
Xbox turns on and off fine with the points soldered and cable connected...

Thanks,
Sheriff L

XEXMenu allows FTP access to your drive, so you can do it that way, or play games from a USB hard drive, or connect your M$ hard drive to your PC

You just copy software folder into a certain location on your hard drive (hdd:/content/0000000000000000/), so yes really easy!

Ok, after a little tinkering, i assume im nearly there?

When i type in "nandpro.exe lpt: -r16 nand1.bin" my xbox360 turns on...

It stays on and then when i type it again, the console turns off...

The same errors still around though:

Could not detect a flash controller!
Can not continue

Any ideas?

I'm going to buy a jtagged 360 off ebay. Seen as I can't solder myself and homebrew is currently in beta, I was wondering if new updates in the future would involve more soldering or just be software orientated. I care mostly about playing games from the hd. Could glitches be fixed by just software updates or would hardware updates be required? Thanks.
