My friend asked me to fix his XBOX 360 the other day and I went ahead and "fixed" it the way I usually repair 360s with the RROD (0102), by using the Hybrid X-Clamp fix. I was able to get it back up and running but everytime I place the motherboard back in the case and close everything up, I get video errors from weird lines, strange hues of red/blue, and sometimes no video being displayed. There is no error code and the Ring Of Light illuminates normally with green lights across the board. Now, when I take the board out of the case, the thing works perfectly. I'm thinking that theres some kind of flexing going on when I place it back in the case so I decided to leave ALL the screws out so the board wouldn't flex against the metal cage... and I end up with the same video errors. Any thoughts here or should I just give him his console back and tell him its a "Limited Edition" Case-less 360?

same thing happened on me a few weeks ago and all i did after letting it overheat was drill the 8 holes in the case where the screws for the old x-clamp would be so that the head of your new scres are not touching the chassis thing

Sounds to me like the issue is one of two things:

1.) The motherboard is being shorted on the case somehow
2.) The system is overheating when it is inside the case, and not when it is out of the case

If the system is an older version, it may be #2. In that case, you may want to increase ventilation and do other tweaks to the case/etc that increase airflow and temperature disbursement. For instance, try using a better quality thermal paste, such as Artic Silver.
