Hi there...
Is the DVD drive of the 360 is responsible for determining the region code for the games?.... if So :changing the drive would change the reg.code for the console...
I know it's probably not the DVD drive but will love a confirmation from someone...
Quote:the region code is on the game disc. you cant change it at all , ever
No .. I understand that ... sorry if I was not clear before ... I mean what is the part IN THE CONSOLE that recognizes the region code of the disc?...is it in the DVD drive?
its software as in the OS of the system. it reads the disc and sees the region. the system is a certain region just as the disc is a certain region.
in any event there is no way to change it. its been discussed several times. even when i first started i thought it would be possible but it just isnt.
Can't figure out why its not possible to change the region code of the games. It's the coding in the "default.xex" somewhere that defines the region code.
Did try a small experiment myself, but I am not at all experienced on "hacking" of X360 stuff. Anyway the games i want to play are only being made and sold as NTSC/U games, and i have a PAl console so that's why i want to do this.
Here is what i tried, maybe someone can see why this didn't work and/or give me some tips on how i can try to change the region code in the "default.xex" file.
I used "Xbox Image Browser" to extract the "default.xex" file, then i used "XexTool" to make the file "region free". Used the "Xbox Image Browser" to replace the "NTSC/U default.xex" whit the "region free default.xex".
Ran the .ISO in "abgx360" and everything looks OK, Burned it like I normally do, and the i got the "dirty disc problem". (did not get the wrong region code error).
Ideas anyone??? I know that many of you are say it's not possible to to do this... but everything is possible, the impossible just takes a bit longer.

It is possible. Just not the way you are doing it. Make the 360 region free. Not the disc.

I might be saying this the wrong way but the Idea is still the same. The reason its not working is because you are breaking the signature of the xex when you edit it so when the xbox does a crc check or whatever to see if its been tampered with it fails. What you are doing should work on a jtag, but not for a stock system.
