I saw on ebay that this guy do all this for $30.
mother board Re-Flow AND X clamp mod to keep the connections good and strong for the long haul.
I just want to know how is that done and is it worth it?
Im not looking to do it im just asking to know because I want to buy broken xbox360's and fix.
The person uses an Infra-Red reflow station that heats up and re-balls the solder on the motherboard making a more secure connection. Re-flow stations can go for in price to the several hundreds $.
To do it properly you need the machine and very specialized knowledge, not to mention the patience to get it just right.
There are other ways to fix RROD and E74 errors that don't use the reflow station but essentially accomplish the same goal.
One method, the most ghetto of the bunch, is simply taking the fans off the motherboard and letting the motherboard get as hot as it possibly can for 10-15 minutes.
The other involves using clay or some other protective material to cover sensitive components on the motherboard and then using a heatgun to do the same thing.
Oh, is like when doing the X-CLAMPS replacement kit, you need to let it do the 3 RROD for like 20mins then let it cool down. After the X-CLAMP is done, the heatgun trick is still needed?
I Just saw a video damn thats crazy lol, after the heat gun is done and the xbox 360 works again, would the same thing have to be done again? or it last for a long time?
If you don't fix the root cause of the problem, it could potentially keep happening, I suppose. The root cause being stress on the motherboard in weird places combined with the heating and cooling of the system causing the solder to crack.
Oh, I'm else thinking of buying a xbox 360 shell and play with it to add fans and maybe cut out some parts and installing glass that wont heat as much lol.
