I just bought a jtagable xbox 360 and I wanted to make sure it will read disks. Every game I have requires a disk update. I'm nervous about doing this cause I want to jtag this console. The dashboard version is 5787 which is one of the blade dashes. Another question I have is if I wait to do any disk updates will it brick my jtag doing it after? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yes, it will patch the jtag hack if you do a system update. Updating in that fashion will also ruin a jtag'ed box. The update blows an efuse which is required for the jtag hack to work and the jtag hack has to work every time you turn on the box.

There are precautionary measures that you can take, to prevent the efuse from blowing, essentially blocking system updates from M$. The process involves either removing a resistor or bridging two points.

You have to update using a program like fbBuild to create the freeBoot dashboard for your jtag, which is sortof the whole point as the regular dashboard is just that, regular.

Everything about a jtag 360 requires a good bit of research. But that's all part of the fun.

You should always simply delete the systemupdate folder off the game before you transfer it.

Thank you to all that responded. You guys have been very helpful. I wasn't sure if the update was on the disk or if it would try to sign me into live. Right now it has its original dash I think from the research I did. There's not many jtagable's left and it would be a shame to ruin it especially where its hardly been used and hasn't ever been opened up but it will be in the morning. I'm setting up an xp pc to do the hack right now my old one that I flashed drives with is dead. This is my first jtag project but I'm very good at soldering in small areas. Great link by the way it will come in very handy. Again thank you to all that responded you all have been a great help.
