ok so i just got done un-rrod'ing an xbox(replacing x-clamps modding fan cover etc.) and when i started it back up, controllers simply wouldn't connect to it. all i knew to do was press the sink buttons on both the controller and xbox and it would flash simultaneously as usual like it was going to connect and then nothing. the weirdest part was that once i turned off the xbox, i could turn it back on with the controller as usual(holding down xbox button) but once it started up, the controller still wouldn't connect! WTF! then, randomly when i was restarting the xbox trying to figure out what was up, it connected w/o me pressing a single thing and worked perfectly. and now at the point i'm at, controllers won't connect again. help!

A plug and play charge kit might sync your controllers. If that doesn't help one of the experts I'm sure will chime in.

Press the sync button on the 360 until the ring of lights are moving rapidly in a circle. Let go of the sync button on the 360 and while the ring of lights are still spinning *then* press and hold the sync button on the controller until both the controller and 360 have one light each.

Replacing the RF board did not work for me, it still doesnt sync, also, I plugged the apparent bad RF board into a good xbox and it sync'd right up. Any other suggestions?

So you're hitting sync on the xbox and then on the controller?

i assume you researched into the most obvious answer; being that you have a short somewhere.... happened to me way, way, way back in the beginning of taken consoles apart. out the case, it worked fine. in the metal case, the controller part didn't work. no wireless, no usb. turned out it the mainboard was touching the metal case, after i found that out (took same time...) no problems at all. you can always tray to boot the mainboard out of the metal case (on a magazine or piece of paper), to see if it is shorting to the metal case.
if all fails.... time for either an usb controller (if that does work); or new xbox.
