I'm thinking of flashing my xbox, but i don't really want to spend money buying things. My new computer has 6 sata connectors. So could i just attach my xbox dvd reader to the motherboard and flash it like that? Also, I'm wondering if anyone who's good at this stuff could give me their msn and help me if i get any problems.
Thanks

only a handful of onboard controllers actually work ICH5 is amongst the few and happens to be the most popular VIA also has an onboard controller that works.
your best bet is to buy a VIA controller card.
and if you using the xbox360 power you have to be fast it auto shutoffs after awhile.

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
Download the CPU-Z zip and run it. Go to the main board tab and look at the Southbridge. It will tell you what chipset you have.

If you can't find anything that has been confirmed by someone else, only way to know is to try it out.

He doesn't even have the key reader. I advised him to hook up the Lite-ON to SEE if JF/His SATA chipset could recognize the drive.

Not if you have the 360's AV lead plugged in.
