So I got hold of a RROD 360 that I want to try to repair. So I'm gonna try the Xclamp mod First. I have seen and read a bunch of different tuts on it but I have seen a few use rubber washers, were most others use steel and nylon washers. Seams to me that a rubber washer would work better since it would flex instead of the MOBO flexing, where as with metal washers won't have that give. But like 90% of the tuts out there use metal/nylon washers, so am I looking at this from the wrong angle or maybe not exactly getting it or does it even matter? Anyone have any insight on this?
Thanks ahead for the responses

I use either nylon or sometimes fiber washers. I dont really use metal washers too much though I have before without problems (though not contacting the mobo in any way). Really the most important thing is spacing: you want 2mm of space on the top side between heatsink and mobo and 3mm of spacing on the bottom between mobo and chassis.

Thanks,
So what your saying is just use the nylon washers no metal? As long as its all secure and I have the correct spacing should be good correct?

Yea you can use metal if you want if it doesnt touch the motherboard but the nylon ones have always worked well for me. Personally though I dont think the x-clamp fix will last. It may relieve pressure and help make contact on the broken connection but if it stays broken that allows oxidation to build up which can make fixing it later harder, requiring flux perhaps for example. It can seem intimidating but check out the video in my sig. It'll show you how to repair your broken solder, which combined with an x-clamp replacement is a good fix. If your RRoD's secondary error is 0102 i'm certain it'll work for you, it always does for me.
