Folks,

I have a couple of xbox's that are clearly out of warranty about 3 years old (launch console) and a PRO and have got the 3 ROD Errors, one has an E08 0020 and the other a 0031 Secondary Error Code..

I am working on the 0031 at the moment - which is an unknown error, or a short of some kind. The most obvious repair to me seems the X Clamp and I have stripped it down, cleaned compound etc..

So today I went to a hardware store and bought screws etc everything apart from NYLON Washers for about £1.93!

The parts I have are:

M5 x 12mm Countersunk, Crosshead/Phillips head screw
(I could not find 10mm)

5mm Flat Metal Washers.

Now, this may be a stupid question (fair enough) but do I need to drill the chasis to make the existing 8 holes big enough to fit a 5mm screw?

Which drill bit would be good?

The only reason I ask is because I have read around that you can buy some that fit in the existing holes - via a kit of ebay etc?? I dont think this is possible surely the thickness of a screw cannot be that thin??

Would Metal Washers suffice or do I also need the nylon/fibers?

I know about Team Hybrid Fix, Lawdogs etc etc, but I just fancy doing the basic and easiest fix which appears to be the original X Clamp Fix!

Thanks

Well I bought a kit off of eBay, it was like £4. It came with only metal washers and some screws. I never had to drill to make the screws fit, depending on your size of screws this might differ. A lot of people recommend using nylon washers but I used only metal and they are working fine (I've heard of nylon washers 'melting' to the motherboard.

Seems, if you have the right size screws and washers, just go ahead and fix it...unless it's still in warranty, then send it back!

Try searching, its fun.

Use this method

http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/rin...x-clamp_fix.htm

As for the materials you want a unibit to enlarge the holes. It should be a tapered bit that starts small and gets larger. You also need to get those nylon washers. You dont' want the steel washers touching the board. The nylon washers just insulate the board.

Just follow that tutorial and make sure you overheat it properly.

I second this, this method has worked when the non-drilling method failed in the past for me.
