Hitachi's are the crappiest drives ever to release in an xbox. They have laser issues, and issues you are descriping. Just dump the FW and replace the drive with a better model.

that is what im trying to do but because its a V79 i have to use the unlock CD and when i do it goes back to being a brick. All i need to know is how to i put it in to recovery mode with out the unlock CD because this drive is just all jacked up. Like i sayed before it works fine in mode B.
i looked around the internet and found out that it may be a BAD checksum. I don't know how true that is but i cant do anything to this drive till i get it in recovery mode.
And for the people that don't know the only way to flash an hitachi V79 is to put it in to recovery mode. This is not the same as Mode B. But you do need to put it in to Mode B first.
This is what i learned of im wrong let me know but this is what I understand about the hitachi V79

The 79 cannot get into mode B without the Disc, there is no other way.

ok getting it in to mode B is easy its getting it in to recovery mode with the audio unlock CD. After i play the CD it goes back to being a brick not doing anything and the computer cant pick it up anymore but in mode B its fine and from that as for the hardware its fine i know for a fact that it has something to do with the software on the drive.
im using JungleFlasher to put it in to mode B i also tryed slax to.But its mostly JungleFlasher that im useing.

When you play the disc, does it unlock or not? Slax is worthless. You can only use JF with the audio unlock. Like I said it's the only way to unlock a 79. Sounds like your laser is junk if it doesn't unlock. Are you sure you burned the CD correctly?

OK i dont think you understand my problem getting it in to mode B is the easy part but after i play the audio CD it start acting crazy again and the computer stops seeing the drive after i play the CD. And yes i have burned it right becaues i flasher 3 other V79 drives that i have on backup.

You DON'T HIT mode B on a 79 dude! You put the audio disc in and hit unlock, dump the FW and flash. 79's are NOT the same as other drives. The audio CD is how it goes into mode B.

you either need a new drive or laser. If the laser doesn't work or isn't strong enough, then it cannot read the audio CD. Did you burn the CD correctly with imgburn?

the laser is fine i put in a music Cd and its played fine. like i sayed befor when i put it in to mode B it works fine it opens it close no problem at all. Now of i play the unlock cd so i can dump it. It stops working again. and yet again like i sayed befor its not a hardware problem.

had the same problem with an 079 hitachi last year, have u update m/b driver or flashed the bios lately, easuest way round the problem in the end is to go to maplins get a sats to usb converter lead and use a laptops usb pot to do it , 079s are the only ones u can use this method for extracting key then just dump key to new drive

This shouldn't matter. You should be using the 6421 Via card, not onboard or a lizard.

I had millions of probs with this drive about a year ago. I seem to recall that hiiting the mode b tab was the easy bit as it went into mode b straight away every time. It was when I selected play audio unlock cd that I kept getting failed RAM execute command etc etc I did everything by the book, VIA card with right chip properties etc but it wouldn't unlock. In the end I burned a new CD and it worked straight away!!
Not sure if that helps.
