Hi There,

I have a Samsung MS28 drive which had FW iXtreme 1.4. I tried to upgrade it to iXtreme 1.61 using JungleFlash and now I am having the following problem. When I reconnect the drive to the XBOX360, the center green led doesnt stop blinking and the drive keeps on opening. Everytime you try to close it, it just closes for a few seconds and opens again. On the dashboard, under My Xbox, it shows the status "Opening" or "Closing", and never even tries to read any DVD.

Anyone encounter this situation before?

My flashing process went smoothly. The only thing I can think of is that I had to use the "Half Closed Tray" trick to get the drive into Vendor Mode. After that the drive never closed again.

Is the drive bricked? I reflashed it again using iPrep and DosFlash and the flashing process completes fine, but when I connect it back to the Xbox360 it starts to behave the same way.

Thanks in advance,

LC

I may be wrong but i thought that the flashing green light shows a lack of firmware or DVD drive itself. Also it sounds like your drive is stuck in mobeB as it keeps on ejecting but as it is a samsung thats impossible.

Did you have to use the activate.iso disc to unlock the drive and put it in to vendor mode?

I tried using the Activate.iso DVD but was not working. So i did the Half Closed Tray trick.

If the DVD is stuck in mode B, how do I reset it back to normal status?

Sounds like the flash wasn't successful to me as well. Read the firmware in Jungle Flasher and see what JF reports, then post your results here.

If Jungle Flasher won't work, try DosFlash32 (this is the GUI program, not the DOS-based one). It's not as fully-featured as JF, but it works better for some things.

$38 on new discs -- Check
$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check

Yeah, you definately need to post the results on here so somone can diagnose the problem, it seems to me something went wrong with the flash though..

maybe during the power off and power on cycle if you were prev flashed that's the real only difference in jf. and only place i think you could possibly mess up a samsung or maybe didn't spoof or something.

Just used the Dosflsh32 and got the same results. Used JF again and this is the log. Same result on the Xbox, the drive doesnt stay closed:

Okay, so your flash looks good and your drive key looks good, so it is not a firmware problem. We can eliminate that possibility.

The next things I would try would be to send the "vendor outro" or whatever it is Jungle Flasher calls it. I believe this button is located at the bottom right side of the MTK Flash or DVD Key tab.

If your drive is just stuck in vendor mode, this button is supposed to send a signal which tells your drive to knock it off and get back into normal operating mode.

The other possibility I see is that there is a problem with the hardware itself that developed when you took the 360 apart. So, for instance, maybe the eject button is stuck in. Or, maybe there is a piece of debris inside the DVD drive that is stopping the tray from fully closing.

It could also be an issue with the DVD drive's magnet that is supposed to hold the game in place in the drive. There are guides and tutorials out there for how to fix that issue if it is indeed the problem.
