A Friend recently got high speed and we attempted to hock his machine to xbox live. This machine is flashed and been working fine for few months. When initially connecting the machine it didn't allow the update to install kept getting a MTU error. Not confident on the new cellular high speed being the problem we took his machine to my house and tried on DSL line. Same problem. I took his hard drive and put it on my box and it updated. Put the Hard drive back on his machine and it still asks to update and fails every time. One last attempt I put my current dashboard hard drive on his machine and same problem and error. After calling M$ support we tried a few things clearing the cache even formatting the hard drive still no go. Looks like the machine is in need of repair to the bios memory. Anyone had this issue? Any suggestions to repairing it?

why not just send it to MS and have them repair it? claim it as RROD or e74, free repair that way. unless the case is all dicked up from taking it apart.

ditto.
I'm also wondering, since all the wave 3 games have the update on it... Would it work that if you run a wave 3 game on a console without the NXE that the game would update the Xbox to have the NXE?
need jtag help? Xbox 360 console repair? PM me or chat

The console has been updated to NXE it is this months update that seems to be the problem. I'll try that out tonight though. Transformers be a good game to try?

this months update wont be on any discs (at least not currently) you can probably download it from xbox.com and burn it to a cd though, and install that way.

I just checked fall of 08 is the lastest update on xbox.com. He tried that and no luck. Guess it will be going to M$ for repairs. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Wasn't there something in that link on the homebrew about the updating having a chance to brick the consoles? i could be wrong but wasn't it something that was overwriting something at boot that was supposed to prevent homebrew.

Well he is still able to boot up right?
OP, can you tell us, and elaborate in clear details what the problem is, and what you are trying to do? Can you just not connect to live because of the MTU error? Or is there anything else?

Simply trying to connect to Live and it will not unless the internal bios is updated this is were the machine fails. The Hard drive has been updated and works fine on my machine. M$ tech support stated that the problem is an internal bios problem and needs repair. I wondered if there was another service menu or jumper that might help. The problem is not MTU the problem seems to be bios updating issue.

yea, im going to say that you fell in that 1 in every 1000 category that got screwed by this update. i would claim it has RROD and send it for repair, this way your not going to pay for it, unless MS is going to offer free repair since it was their update that screwed it up.
