Heyaaa,
Bassicly I bought an xbox from a person that had put the wrong dvd drive in it so it would not play games just dvds and music. After much negotiation I managed to get them to mail the Logic Board from the original dvd drive, which was a Benq mode, the one they put in was a Samsung model.
I want to use the Sata cable method to retreive the code from the Benq one and flash that to the samsung, but will I be able to do it with just the Benq logic board only? Literally all I have is the logic boars, nothing else. Will it still be able to retrieve the key from the board if its only the board and not the other drive components?
I will power the board from the xbox itself and connect it via 'SATA PCI Card VIA VT6421A 6421 for XBOX' which im buying from ebay. WILL THIS WORK?! PLEASE HELP!

I think it will work, give it a try. I have done it with a sammy ms25. Another option would be to JTAG, what dash are you running?

Its on the newest dashboard, ive never attempted JTAG before so I will definatly try the Sata cable onto the board as soon as it arrives and update from here. Really hope this works!

You can always buy another Benq and swap the boards out...without having to flash. If you do flash, make sure you don't short the board on anything when you plug it in. Flashing the board by itself is sketchy.
"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

I thought it would be cheaper and easier to get the adapater and plug instead of buying a benq drive. I never considered that I could burn out the board doing this, isnt it grounded through the xbox? I tried it yesterday with my onbaord sata and no detection, whats the chances I burnt it out? D: It didnt reconise my samsung drive either and thats still working so I just assumed my onboard sata wasnt compatiable.

you can in fact pop fuses on the board, make sure you put a piece of cardboard or something like that between the board and the area you are laying it on, now i would be skeptical that you do have the correct board, they may have just sent you a board to shut you up, i have been through that before and if you bought it from florida there is a good chance you got the one i made them take back. they sent me 2 boards saying the 2nd time they picked up the wrong one, i ended up having to file a claim and get my money back. never the less i would flash the key from the benq to the sammy and see if it works, if not they have given you the wrong board, if so i would think of investing in a benq drive, and put the drive board on it, remember to save your drive key!!

I just checked over the board and it seems fine, no blown fuses or any signs of physical damage. I guess tommorow I will find out for sure. To be absoloutly honest the thought never crossed my mind that it could be the wrong board, the guy I bought it from seems trustworthy but now that you mention it I guess you can never know. Its unfortunate because I have 2 samsung and 2 hitachi roms just sitting there doing nothing and then a Benq board comes on its own, would of saved me alot of time and money.
I guess that leads to another question, as the xbox was sold to me as faulty I guess I cant ask for a refund? Is it bassicly a write-off without that original logic board? Or can the samsung drive be used in a way which allows it play games? Im guessing not but asking never hurt anyone ^^

if you purchased it from ebay that is where i got it from, i reported him for selling me a drive with illegal firmware on it, and he did not put up a fight he just agreed to a refund. its worth asking i hate getting screwed over, and if that is not the correct board then it sounds as if you got screwed.

you are going to have to have it connected to a drive, the drive has to be cycled after it is connected in order to get it recognized in windows.

No I only hard the board and no drive to put it in, I was told Benq was one of the only board that can be reconised just with the Logic Board. Been trying for 4 hours on two different computers and no joy whatsoever. I just want to play xbox, any ideas people?

the board has to be put into vendor mode i do not think that is possible without the entire drive, what i would suggest you try is connect the board and hit eject 2 times this may make it think that it cycled but i doubt it very seriously, worth a try though. i will try to mess with one board only here and see if i can get something out of it. i will let you know shortly.

Seriously cannot thankyou enough for any assistance your willing to offer. I've never had this problem before and its become an obsession to fix this xbox of mine. I think ive spent upwards of 8 hours so far trying to get this drive reconised as another forum assured me it could be done. If you have any luck please let me know, all I need is the key! Thankyou!

ok i was wrong that does not need to cycle, i just read the key from a board only, it was actually quite easy and only took about 1 minute. i do not know what method you are using with JF but i was suggest look through the ports see if you see PBS on any of them, do the benq unlock, then read the drive and bam there was the key easy as that.

Im going to give it another try but im starting to think this board im using must be broken? Its not detecting anything when Ive got the board plugged into the xbox and the sata cable correctly.
What if its not detective because the board is blown or something, visually it looks fine but if it is am i out of options? Many thanks
