I just recently had my 360 flashed and find it works a treat, to a certain extent anyway....

It's very strange, it will play games I have purchased normally, and sometimes it will play the ones I've burnt. But sometimes it doesn't recognise the discs, the 360 will make the whirring sounds as though it were normally playing the disc but then one of three things will occur (which aren't the desired result):
-It will give the 'Open Tray' message
-It will give 'Disc Unreadable' message, but it recognises it as a game
-It will think it's a DVD and play it as so, but it comes up with a screen saying to put it in a 360 (I have)

I know it works, as like I said, it is random, sometimes after opening and closing the disc tray a random amount of times it'll play the game like normal, then any burnt game put in after the 'recognising period' will play aswell. But as soon as I turn off the 360, it resets it and I have to wait for the 360 to decide to let me play.

If anyone has any idea why this would happen, I would greatly appreciative for any help on the matter. Thanks!

(And I know not everyone may agree with what I am doing, but in truth I simply cannot afford to buy games all the time. If I find a good game via downloading, I will purchase it at a later date.)

same thing happened to my lite-on drive. turned out that a wire that I used to repair a trace came loose, and was partially making contact.

At times, my system would work perfectly, recognize ANY game, and other times, I couldn't get it to even play originals... I reopened the drive, and checked everything, only to find the loose wire.

if your drive is a lite-on drive, then soldering is required, and I suggest you take it back to the guy who flashed it, and tell him whats happening, and have him check his work.

if your drive is NOT a lite-on, then it could be bad disks that your using.

google jungleflasher.pdf to find out what kind of drive you have if you don't already know.

Well I know it IS a lite-on as that was the reason I sent it off, as I didn't trust myself soldering it, and that's what's odd about it, it'll play original discs without fail, never had a disc open error with one. But the moment a burnt one enters, it decides to play a nice game of roulette of 'Will this game play' with all spaces but one being 'No'.

Thanks for the comment though. Also I use Verbatim discs and burn at 4x (The lowest setting I can)

EDIT: After reading your message I decided just to have a glance and see if it was in fact a loose connection with a wire, so I opened it up, blew out the dust and the like, fiddled about with the optical lens (I had no idea what I was doing btw) and after putting it back together, they all work!! SO thank you. Thank you for making me open my xbox, it now works and I'm still not sure why. THANKYOU!!!

no problem.. glad to hear its working.

Theres a bit of a debate about what setting to burn disks at... I personlly burn mine at 2.4x, I really don't care about how long it takes.. but you say the slowest you can set yours to is 4x? what program do you use to burn? I use imgburn, and it allows you to set it to 2.4x..

I burnt 1 game at 4x, just to see if it would do anything... and game worked fine for a while, but when it went to a cut scene, and started loading the next scene, it froze like a mofo...... so back to 2.4x for me... never had a problem since.

AssKlown is right about burning at 2.4x and the standard discs to get are the verbatim form Singapore - that's what everyone recommends and is what i use - i've never had a bad burn with them. Using cheaper discs could wear out your lens and the errors that could burned to the discs at 4x could contribute as well.

It sounds like you got your issue sorted, but cheap media, failing drive mechanics, loose rubber bands and a failing lens could cause that problem also.

Not to open up yet another debate about this topic, but I have always burned at the media's highest supported speed with no problems for over a year. Sony Optiarc burner for those interested...Verbatim and Memorex media.

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

What works for some, may not work for others. One thing is for sure, if you burn Verbs at 2.4x they will pretty much always work. I had bad luck with memorex discs, but I doubt my burner is anything special. I tried verbs and didn't have anymore problems.

Yeah, Verbs usually alleviate those dreaded CAD issues.

I have tried burning at 2.4x but every time I do it says mismatched error speed and puts it on 4x, if I put it higher, it puts it to 4x. That's using ImgBurn by the way, I'm forced to 4.. But as I said, it seems resolved for now, but if anyone knows how to make it burn at 2.4 and stop readjusting my setting I'd be glad to hear it.

How to burn at 2.4x? Buy discs that support 2.4x speed... But if the 4x is working you could stick to that, but my worry is that it might stress out you lens in the long run and you'll be looking for a new lens/drive. I could be wrong though, perhaps someone that knows more about burn speeds and optical drives could shine some light on this - or you can ask someone in the DVDR forums - I'm sure they'll know more. I do know that writing speed plays a role in the quality of the discs.
