To start off with, I have never owned an xbox, and I am thinking of getting the Xbox Arcade, I think 256mb version, so the cheap one.
I have flashed my Wii as to play backups but I am not sure if it is the same with the 360. Now I know you need to flash the DVD drive for the 360, but I was just thinking of getting my local repair shop to do that anyways. My questions are;
If you want to play a new Xbox 360 game (offline) e.g. FF13, do you need to update your 360's firmware ? As to play newer and newer games that are released ? OR is it like the Wii where you need to update the console to play new games ? (I know that the Wii at the moment has a homebrew app as well as a custom firm ware.)
My next question is, do I need to connect my 360 to the internet to play games that are soley offline? I of course refer my concerns to the UBI soft dilemma where you need to now play games even offline while connected to the internet. I also ask if I need to have the game stealth patched if I just want to play offline.
One more question, if you play a newer game does it try to update your 360 if of course the 360 requires firmware updates ? Because if they do, Microsoft would try to get people to update their 360 through games as well, thus maybe bricking the system if modded in anykind.
My final question, thought the top one was, but if you do get caught with breaking their Terms and Rules, and you get 'banned', does your console cease to work or is it just banned from Xbox Live ?
Sorry for all the questions, I just want to point out I don't believe in piracy, I only believe in people should do what they want with their console, if it isn't hurting anyone, e.g. hacking/modding it to play backup games you already own. And I am wanting to get an xbox and straight away flash it because I have on a number of accounts had my discs scratched from worn usage, not sure how tolerable HD discs are.
You do not need to connect to xbox live to play games. The newest LT firmware that is flashed to the dvd drive will let you play all games. Updates that are on the game discs are for the xbox 360 itself, and yes if you are not running the newest dash from MS then you will need to update before the game will play. If you are caught and banned the console will still play games, you however will not be able to install games to the HDD and you will not be able to connect to xbox live. Hope this answers your questions

Ok so let me get this right, and first of all, thank you soo much for your answers, because the firmware is on the drive (thereforce I don't need to update it anymore if I have the latest firmware), means I can install game updates on the Xbox 360 itself without having any repercussions. Because with the Wii, if you update the firmware through game disc or download from the internet will it brick the system(360) like it does to the Wii ?
