Xbox 360 iXtreme, what is Wave?

Hi, I have heard about Wave 1,2,3,4,5 and 6. But what is actually wave. Could someone explain to me what it is and why it is important for me to know what wave the different games are.

Waves are versions of the 360 games. When the 360 launched, the games were "structured" a certain way. That would be the 1st wave of games. When the dashboard was updated, the updates were also put on the game discs (which makes them different from the first wave of games) making them "wave 2". Every time the structure is changed, it's referred to as a new wave.

iXtreme is firmware. This firmware allows the 360 to read burned discs. When the first wave of games was out, the firmware was created to read them. When the 2nd wave of games came out, the firmware wouldn't read them, so a new iXtreme firmware was released to read them. Every time a a new wave of games come out, there has to be a new firmware to read them.

Note: This doesnt apply to firmwares like Exteme 5.3, iXtreme LT, iXtreme 1.61, which ignore security measures, to boot all waves.
