I would like to get an xbox 360 pro 60gb, but I was wondering is it possible to play back ups with out a modchip or play games off the harddrive? Also Is the 360 and what is special about it from the ps3?

You don't need any extra hardware to mod your xbox to allow backup games to be played.
ps3 vs xbox360 is just down the preference. They are both about on par graphics wise. ps3 has free online play though.

Ok thanks for the info. I was wondering what do you need to exactly do to play back ups and can they be played off the hard drive or you have to put them on a disc?

You need to do the bananna split method to make it work... search on that.

To play off the hard drive I think you will need a chip. But to play burnt backup copies you will just need to flashmod the dvd drive of your xbox.
I'll give you a basic rundown of how it works:
1. You are flashing a new firmware to your DVD Drive in your xbox 360.
2. You have to connect your xbox drive to your PC so it will recognise it
3. Once recognised, you will use Jungleflasher to 'flash' the new firmware onto your drive (for more info on jungleflasher visit jungleflasher.com)
4. Remove from computer and reassemble the xbox.
5. Play burnt games (it's a whole differnent story ripping/burning games)
All drive methods are different (hitachi/benq/liteon/samsung) so I can't really guide you on how to set it all up.

Sure he might need an xtractor or some solder for a liteon drive.

I see you are new around here, try to get help, and by reading all the posts you maybe confused.
I will try to help you the better i can't with my bad english. :)
First of all get a XBOX360, the best is to get with a BENQ Drive are the easy to flash. Also you need to get a SATA Controler with the VIA VT6421A you can get in the EBAY, i buy 2 Sata Controllers only cost 25 USD.
Ok you know have the XBOX360 and the SATA Controller.
I will give you the step, but the rest you must read on the link that i give you.
1º - Identify you XBOX360 DVD-ROM
Go to this site to see how to identify
Identify DVD Drive
It has pictures and a link to a Xbox 360 Drive Database.
2º- How to open the XBOX360 and Connecto to the PC.
Only use this tutorial to open and connect your drive to the SATA Controller nothing more.ATENTION THIS TUTORIAL IS FOR BENQ DRIVE THE OTHER DRIVE I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS THE SAME WAY
3º - Use Afterdown, to search tutorials to help you flashing your XBOX360, if you drive is BENQ i can help you, because it is the same drive is mine. If it is another then you must try to find here in the forum a tutorial or some thread about it to help you by flashing it.
P.S: Anyone how wants to buy a SATA Controller here the link for it
