A few months ago I bought a broken xbox 360, complete with the console itself and the necessary cables, with the intention of fixing it. When I got the console it wouldn't even power on, so after some attempted fixes and forum searching, I bought a replacement motherboard on ebay. With the replacement board, the system booted up just fine -- but when I went to play a game, it gave me the "please insert this disc into an xbox 360" error. I did some more research, and believe this may be due to the fact that the dvd key does not match up with the motherboard. I did some searching to try and find a guide on how to flash an xbox 360 motherboard/dvd drive with the same key, and could not find anything. I found a lot of guides for replacing dvd drives and flashing them with modded firmware, but no replacement motherboard guides. Maybe I'm just incompetent, but any help here would be GREATLY appreciated. Btw, my drive is a samsung ms25 and yes, I have sata cables and a via sata card for flashing. Thanks again for any help you might be able to offer...

Basically, each motherboard contains a unique drive key which is also contained in the DVD drives firmware. If both keys do not match, you will only be able to play DVD's no games.
Best thing for you to do, would be to check the Dashboard version of your xbox to see if it can be jtagged. If it can, you can retrive your key by flashing XELL, decrypting your NAND with the CPU key you got from xell and you will get your DVD key. (dont worry if this sounds complicated, its not and there are guide on here to show you what to do)
AFAIK, if you dashboard is not exploitable, the only other way is the infectus chip which is expensive and requires quite a bit of work to get going.
Hope this helps and let us know if you need any more help.

Ok, I checked my xbox 360 dashboard and I believe the kernel version is 6690 the tutorial I found on this site: http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/modding-...-nand-xell.html seems to be pretty good and says that as long as your kernel version is below 7371, you should be fine. I now understand the basics of how to do the jtag hack and retrieve the NAND flash memory. However, I dont see anything about the dvd key, just the cpu key. Am I missing something or what? Thanks for your help.

Its encrypted in the NAND and you need your CPU key to decrypt it, so basically once you have your CPU key you then open 360 flash tool, load your nand dump, click on keys at the top and enter your cpu key and it will give you your dvd key

Alright. Got the cable and jtag wiring and everything set up, but when I try to read the NAND using the command: C:\Nandpro20b\nandpro.exe lpt: -r16 nand1.bin
it says "Could not open Virtual Nand Device File: 1pt Can not continue". Any idea what the problem is? Thanks again.

your wires to the lpt connector should be as short as possible and double check your solder points and ensure your bios lpt port is set to epp not spp
If its free its me!

The problem is that your typing "1pt" (Number One) instead of "lpt" (Letter L)
