I just soldered an XBOX 360 NME 2.0 chip into my BenQ drive but I can't tell if it's working or not. It says to hold down the power button for one second when turning it one which doesn't seem to act any different than it normally does. So I don't know if the install is proper or if that's the way it's supposed to be. So I downloaded a copy of a game I already have an original of to see if it would work. Used NME associator to patch properly and burned with IMGBURN using Verbatim 2.4x DL's and there was no errors. When I put the disk in the 360 it just says "play dvd". Trying to figure out what the problem is. Chip or burning. I have updated firmware on my SonyDRU-710 burner too.

yes it does, if you can solder you can easily flash a dvd drive. It literally takes ~5 mins to flash, most of it is opening and making sure everything is setup correctly.

I decided to try the chip since it can be easily turned off without leaving a trace unlike a flash. Due to all the recent bannings, this seemed much more safe. And it was only $40. So worth a try.

that presumes that it is known how people are banned... and that is not known. what if you play a copy and your console get flags? turning the chip off will not do you any good, you will get banned the next time you go online/during a dashboard update. so with a chip and a flashed drive you run the same risk i believe. and then a flash is much cheaper and easier. but off course the choice is yours (chip or flash)
Unfortunately there is no way to tell where the error lies. I've always been partial to modchips myself but the only thing you can do is check to make sure the soldering is done properly. If you know anyone who has a system that can play copies you can test your copy. I used to have a Globe360 in my system but I switched to FW updates a little over a year ago. It is definitely the easier way to go about doing this.
