xbox 360 open tray and play dvd error

ok so heres the problem my friend gave me this xbox to repair and when you put a game in i it says reading disc then it will say either open tray or play dvd and i thoght it might be a dirty lens so i opened the drive and cleaned it still was doing the play dvd thing and i also tried connecting it to my pc to put the offical firmware onto it again cause i was thinking it might just be not have any firmware on it but it wasent detecting the drive on jungle flasher i think cause i have windows 7 installed but im wondering if using a virtual machine with windows xp on it will fix the problem i will appreaciate any help given

Does it play DVD's OK? If so, it may not be the original drive for that xbox in which case it will not play games.

ok i tested it with a film and it played it fine with no problems then after that i put in a original xbox 360 game and it said play game but it dident show the games logo and when i clicked a the screen went black then a windows poped up saying unreadable disc or something like that then i did it a few couple more times with the black screen and the poppup thing then i did it again and the game worked for a few seconds then it poped up saying unreadable disc

Thats actually good news, this means you have the correct Drive / Drive key. It sounds like your laser might be dying here. Before replacing anything, get some lense cleaning fluid and gently clean the laser and the reflector in a slow circular motion.
If this doesnt fix it you will either need to replace the laser or replace the whole drive. If you replace the drive, you will need to Spoof the correct drive key on to it.

Hi ,
I defo need a new drive on mine. Prob is I dont have a PC I Only have a laptop. How would I get the key to the new drive if i cant hook up to PC as a secondary drive?
