Today when i tried to power on my xbox 360 it wouldn't turn on at all and the power brick has a red light. I tried a new power brick and it is still the red light when i try to turn it on. It seems like the problem is in the xbox seeing as i have tried multiple bricks that work on other xbox's. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi All:

Does the red light appear as soon as you plug the power supply in or when you connect the 360?

If it does, go in your basement/utility room (wherever your breaker box is) and tell me if you hear a weird humming/buzzing. It will be kind of faint so listen carefully.

If you do, you have what's called a ground fault in your wiring. Most common culprit is lazy contractor's (usually cheap and/or under the table) or mice.

Get a decent electrician in there before your house catches on fire.

Otherwise:

Make sure you are using a grounded outlet and not an adapter.
If you are unsure if it is grounded or not, buy a surge protector that has a status indicator light. It will tell you if you are grounded.
Make sure the cable is completely connected to the 360.

If none of the above work take your 360 apart and try plugging it in CAREFULLY without the metal cage. Make sure the DVD drive is connected or you will get BANNED.

If it works, use a dielectric (non-conductive) material (electrical tape is cheap and great for this) to cover the bottom of the motherboard, ONLY where the power supply connects.

You will see a bunch of solder points where the connector is soldered to the board in a type of circular configuration. This is what you need to cover.

Let me know if any of the above works.

Thanks!
